In this exhibition, the BASC collective invites us to delve into the hidden intricacies of the tourism industry, unveiling the realities that lie beneath the façade of comfort and luxury. Through the works of Samuel de Sagas, Marina Salazar, Gastón Lisak, Xavier Morrón, and Nicole Vindel, we embark on a journey that transcends the visible, questioning our perception of service and leisure in the era of mass tourism. Curated by Manuel Expósito, the exhibition serves as a critical mirror reflecting the contradictions inherent in our consumer society. The displayed pieces not only reveal but also challenge: What means sustain our longing for escapism? How does urban space transform to meet the demands of leisure and tourism?

Privilege of Fake Abundance. M0124

«Privilege of Fake Abundance» is a series of sculptures centered on the concept of abundance and privilege in contemporary society, particularly through water as a vital resource. The piece features flowing water that creates dynamic reflections on a metallic tableware set, symbolizing both false abundance, an endlessly open faucet, and the stacking of dirty dishes that future generations will have to clean. It invites viewers to reflect on our privilege here and now, the social imbalances inherent in access to resources, and to question just how real this abundance truly is. The serene sounds of water contrast with the critical dialogue on modern consumerism. In this work, Vindel challenges the audience to reconsider the modern relationship with nature and the privileges we so often take for granted.

"I Shine, Therefore I Am" is more than a phrase, it is an act of recognition. The hotel cleaning staff transforms common areas and rooms, transporting us to the best possible experience as we step into immaculate spaces, where feelings of well-being and tranquility unfolds, a gift we often take for granted. This true “art of the invisible” combines technique, dedication, and a keen eye for detail. Through their silent and constant work, they bring shine to the everyday. Their dedication makes them the true architects of this experience, ensuring that every corner gleams with a warmth that invites us to stay.

FOMO, Serie Soft Skin.

SOFT SKIN, contrasts natural skins with contemporary concepts such as YOLO («You Only Live Once»), FOMO(«Fear of Missing Out») or SORRY. These words, rich in cultural meaning, are woven onto the skin using typographies that evoke the aesthetic of personalized products like caps or t-shirts. Embroidery emerges as a lasting and non-violent gesture, in contrast to the historical practice of branding with fire, complemented by vibrant and fluorescent colors that stand out against the surface.

FOMO, embroidered onto rabbit skin, explores the tension between information overload and the fear of missing out. By combining the ultra-fast with the slow, the visible with the invisible, and the comfortable with the uncomfortable, this piece reflects the paradox of contemporary experience. The contrast between the ephemeral nature of the concept and the permanence of the material invites a critical reflection on time and consumption.

These works, united by embroidery as a symbolic and lasting gesture, explore the relationship between the human and the animal, the everyday and the transcendent, the visible and the overlooked. Each piece raises questions that connect with our present condition, inviting us to reflect on our responsibility in the world we inhabit.

Siderio. A Constellation of Drawings in Motion

The drawings, created on light yet sturdy surfaces, will integrate with the emptiness and inherent movement of the space, evoking a floating constellation where each piece engages in dialogue with the others and with the surrounding architecture. The installation will utilize light and the unique perspective of the staircase, creating an immersive and dynamic experience for visitors.

This universe treats the pictorial process as a becoming, gradually taking shape. It is a creation in motion, forming itself until it exists, possesses, and occupies space. The works, as a whole, respond to a plastic system that is more about improvisation than planned composition. My process allows images to emerge through textures and stains, which engage in dialogue and encounter one another until they form a constellation. Throughout the process, references to natural phenomena begin to appear.

Terrestrial morphological essays, accidents that gradually take on meaning at various scales and positions in space. The works stand as witnesses to this process of becoming. Here, drawing emerges as a practice intertwined with movement, where each piece slowly acquires its own weight and rhythm.

Fungal site

Fungal site proposes an artistic intervention that dialogues with the existing architecture of the Petit Palace Santa Bárbara hotel, transforming a corner into a space for mushroom growth, symbolising regeneration and coexistence between the urban and the natural. Through the representation of Pleurotus ostreatus mushrooms printed in 3D with biodegradable PLA, the installation combines technology and sustainability, showing how the artificial can imitate and celebrate living processes.

Puerto

‘Puerto’ as the title of the presented piece, arises from the search for an image that symbolically synthesizes dialogue structures in border spaces. Its ‘Y’ shape represents a physical extension, reaching out to the other, filtering and observing between its open parts until containment leads to acceptance, functioning as a system of identity filtering and subsequent recognition of the other. Specifically, this shape emerges as a way to bring the conversation into the formation of spaces within migratory processes, referencing the restrictive nature of current policies.

The intervention on the surface is conceived as a pictorial body, yet fragmented in its parts. The dried droplets on its surface create a visual whole, while also allowing space for the filtrations of the other, its transparency enabling us to see beyond it. These droplets, as we have named them, bring us closer to the intergenerational idea of the port space as a connective symbol with others. In this way, we recognize the port as a place where interconnections and care are formalized.

Gems

"Gems," understood as natural elements, appear as beautiful minerals that, through a polishing process, are forced to reveal their most intimate components, fictionalizing their rocky bodies to extract what is desired from them. This work seeks to create that same fiction through the creative process itself, presenting a collection of synthetic minerals that delve into and challenge pre-established ideas of what is real or pure. Here, artificiality takes the concept of the genuine as a reference point, deconstructing it into a catalog of appearances, processed to be perceived as something authentic, yet never truly becoming it.
Through the sculptural process, organic forms emerge from the expansion of polyurethane, where the resulting shapes are composed into fictional rocks, manually eroded and treated to create a collection of extracts with an organic character.

Biombo

The Biombo sculpture is a statement on the importance of keeping alive the coexistence that unfolds among citizens in different communal spaces. This coexistence often occurs between strangers, inevitably taking on a theatrical formality. It is this sequence of manners, gestures, and social conventions, the silent and unspoken agreement to let others exit before entering, to make way, to maintain distance, to avoid inconvenience, to greet, to help, perhaps… A choreography played out among strangers in which, nonetheless, we recognize ourselves. Valuing these gestures is essential, as they lay the foundation for a shared life, for a society in which its members acknowledge one another as such.

Visions of the Tropics

The installation "Visiones del Trópico" consists of two textile artworks suspended in the air and held by ropes, reminiscent of a clothesline. The pieces are made of layered fabrics, transitioning from dense to more translucent and delicate materials, adorned with silk ribbon and cotton embroidery. They depict lush landscapes filled with vegetation, fauna, and pre-Columbian elements, infused with memories and traces of the artist’s fragmented identity, shaped by her migration from Colombia to Spain. This work seeks to connect nature, history, and personal experiences, reflecting how memories transform over time.

JACUZZI reflects a narrative of effervescence, of disturbance of calm and the presence of active bodies in the context of a hotel taken over by artists.

A wedding between art and artist, it invites reflection on the personal commitment that art can inspire in those who experience it as an essential driving force in their existence.

Three performers with nonconforming bodies reflect on the concept of occupying, fitting, and filling space as they proudly take action with their abundant bodies.

Through this cross-disciplinary piece, they generate a critique of the traditional concept of non-canonical bodies and the challenges and obstacles they face due to narrowness and discomfort.

The Alchemical Tea Party

"The Alchemical Tea Party" is a performative and symbolic experience that invites attendees to take part in a unique ceremony. Inspired by Remedios Varo’s painting Still Life Rising, the performance unfolds around a table where elements of alchemy, Santería, and tarot converge to create a space for mystical reflection and interaction. The performer will read the tea leaves for participants.

“Measuring JACUZZI» is a performance that transforms the spaces of the Hotel Petit Palace Santa Bárbara into a living laboratory where the body and the building engage in dialogue. “Measuring JACUZZI» it is not just a performance or action art, but a sensitive study of the environment and an invitation to rethink our relationship with the spaces we inhabit and visit. In the context of JACUZZI, this work does not measure walls, but rather experiences, emotions, and shared discoveries.

A performer is unable to stand upright or walk like a biped. She is not a woman, her attitude does not allow her to reach that category. Apathy weighs her down, the weight of life presses her to the ground. She has not bought into the Mister Wonderful narratives that float above her. That is why she crawls, she is a mop. She takes advantage of her condition to do something useful: with her apathy, she sweeps the floor, cleaning the footprints of those who rise and descend like true bipeds, looking straight ahead, envisioning a horizon, a future, a sense of progress.

Look at me and give me a kiss’ stands as a poetic experience that celebrates the luminous essence that dwells in every being. «Jaleo» celebrates the Spanish sobremesa through a performative experience that combines humor, chaos, and cinematic aesthetics. With live music, debates, karaoke, and eccentric characters, an immersive environment is created where the audience becomes an active part of the action. Inspired by 70s surrealist cinema and folk-horror, the performance blends contemporary rhythms with folklore and a carefully curated visual aesthetic.

Obstacle

Rubén Tamarit, Alba Tesias and Celia Pírezz

“Obstacle” is a reflection on corporeality and the way the body occupies, moves through, and relates to a specific space. Likewise, it explores the relationship between bodies, the taboos associated with them, and the contrast between the self and the other. A deeply collaborative collective action is proposed, where the audience and the space itself become the main protagonists. Guided by four young performers, a hotel corridor will be transformed into a conduit—a channel to pass through, experience strangeness, and find one's place.
