ArtQuake Gallery participates in Hybrid Art Fair 2026 with «Viaje Iniciático». The curatorial proposal is inspired by the concept of initiation rites—understood as a process of transition and transformation—as addressed by Mircea Eliade. The gallery translates this idea into a vital and existential perspective, exploring the journey as a path of search and confrontation.
Two artists, Gabby Grube and María Hernández Belmonte, develop their work based on this premise. Gabby Grube presents a series of works centred on her car, a 1959 Beetle. The machine becomes the physical vehicle of the journey and the symbol of an eternal search for identity, linking the constant repair of the car with that of the human being. María Hernández Belmonte directs her focus towards nature. She uses the migration pattern of the swallow and its phases as a metaphor for a cyclical journey and the stages that comprise it.
The works converge in a reflection on eternal return, evoking nostalgia, memory and confrontation with destiny. This path leads the viewer to perceive the journey as a perpetual movement between the absurd and the transcendent, resonating with the myth of Sisyphus from an existentialist perspective.
