«Pasado continuo», presented by Canal Gallery, proposes a reflection on hip-hop culture in Madrid as an active flow that defines the present. The exhibition flees from nostalgia to understand memory not as a closed file, but as a living tool of identity construction.
The work of Selectormarx, entitled «Soon the day of my luck will come», is articulated as a documentary archive gested from within the movement. For two decades, his camera has recorded the evolution of the Madrid scene, from neighborhood codes to its consolidation in the global industry. Far from idealization, his gaze poses a critical reading about the change of languages and aesthetics, claiming photography as a political position and a direct testimony of those who supported the movement from its foundations.
In dialogue with this archive, the work of Conrado López introduces a subjective and emotional dimension. Starting from the photographic base, his painting transforms the document; where the camera fixes an instant, the brush slows it down and passes through it from the personal experience. López works the inner time of the image - light, gesture and pause -, turning the historical record into a sensitive experience.
Canal Gallery thus reinforces its identity linked to urban art, activating the cultural value of the archive and positioning contemporary art as a space where memory and critical thinking coexist.
