Materia Viva is an exhibition project that brings together the perspectives of four female artists—Charo Guijarro, Leila Amat, Helena Maldonado, and Crissial—united by their exploration of the body, emotion, and memory through photography and its multiple expressive possibilities.
From self-representation and intimacy, the artists construct a visual dialogue that crosses the personal and the collective. The works unfold like living matter: some intervened with paint, embroidery, inks, natural elements, alternative techniques and manual gestures that restore the image's tactile and organic dimension; others, from direct photography, without manipulation, but charged with a symbolic force that reveals the authenticity of being, the power of the body, vulnerability assumed as power.
Materia Viva does not respond to a single technique, but rather to an ethic of doing: artisanal, careful, physical. Images become skin, territory, threads that connect experience, memory, and transformation. At the heart of the proposal, the act of weaving—as a symbolic and poetic gesture—structures the narrative of the project: weaving images, weaving bonds, weaving what we were and what we are becoming.
The installation, conceived as an immersive and sensory space, invites visitors to inhabit the works rather than simply contemplate them. A journey through the fragile, the cyclical and the human, where photography ceases to be a document and becomes a living presence.
